Hayfever relief: simple pharmacy support for allergy season

Sneezing through meetings. Itchy eyes on the school run. A blocked nose that keeps you awake at night. Hayfever can seem like a small seasonal problem — until it starts affecting your sleep, concentration, energy, and day-to-day comfort.

If your usual antihistamines are not quite doing enough, you do not have to keep struggling through the season. At Dears Pharmacy, our Hayfever Relief Services are designed to help you find the right support for your symptoms, with practical advice and treatment options from your local pharmacy team.

More than just “a bit of pollen”

Hayfever is a common form of allergic rhinitis, usually triggered by pollen. For some people, symptoms are mild and easy to manage. For others, they can become persistent, frustrating, and disruptive.

Common symptoms include sneezing, a blocked or runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, sinus pressure, headaches, tiredness, and poor sleep. When symptoms continue for weeks, they can start to affect work, school, exercise, travel, and simply enjoying time outdoors.

That is where a pharmacy consultation can help.

Choosing the right hayfever support

Different people need different approaches. Some may benefit from a stronger non-drowsy antihistamine such as fexofenadine, where appropriate. Others may need support for nasal symptoms, including advice on sprays and how to use them properly.

Our pharmacy team can assess your symptoms, talk through what you have already tried, and help you understand which options may be suitable. In many cases, combining treatments — such as tablets, nasal sprays, and eye drops — can work better than relying on one product alone.

What about the hayfever injection?

Our Hayfever Injection Service is temporarily unavailable.

When available, this service is intended for people with more severe seasonal symptoms where other treatments have provided limited relief, and suitability must always be assessed by a trained pharmacist.

For now, our team can still support you with other hayfever and allergic rhinitis options, including tablet consultations, nasal treatment advice, and practical steps to reduce exposure and improve symptom control.

Small changes can help too

Treatment is only part of the picture. Simple steps can also make a difference during high pollen periods. Try keeping windows closed in the early morning and evening, washing pollen from your hair and skin after being outdoors, changing clothes when you come inside, and starting treatment early if your symptoms usually return at the same time each year.

If symptoms are persistent, severe, or not controlled by the medicines you are already using, it is worth asking for advice rather than simply putting up with it.
