Safe & Effective Treatment
Priligy is the first effective oral treatment for premature ejaculation for men who cannot naturally control their ejaculation and cannot last longer than 2 minutes during sex.
What is Premature Ejaculation
Premature ejaculation is a common distressing male sexual dysfunction where a man experiences ejaculation too soon; typically, less than 2 minutes after sexual contact. Over 30% of men suffer from premature ejaculation at some point in their lives and are unable to control or delay their ejaculation. The condition is more common in men between the ages of 18-35 years old, where the average male latency time is 7 minutes.
What causes Premature Ejaculation?
The exact root of premature ejaculation remains unclear as there are many factors to consider: psychological, physiological and environmental (lifestyle). The condition could stem from an emotional imbalance, stress, anxiety, depression or a physical problem including high blood pressure, hypersensitivity, diabetes and even excessive drinking. However, boosting your serotonin levels seems to help as it affects appetite, sleep and sexual desire.
What is Priligy?
Priligy is the first oral treatment for premature ejaculation for men between the ages of 18-64 who cannot naturally control their ejaculation and cannot last longer than 2 minutes during sex. It contains the active ingredient dapoxetine hydrochloride, a drug belonging to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) group of drugs. SSRI’s are also used in the treatment of depression but act slower than Priligy, which is designed to give your body a burst of serotonin and then leave.
How does it work?
Priligy delays the ejaculation reflex signal to your brain via the sympathetic nervous system, influencing the amount of the neurotransmitter serotonin that reaches the brain. It controls the serotonin breakdown in the body and the levels remain higher than normal to prevent early ejaculation.
How should I take Priligy?
The medication comes in doses of 30mg and 60mg tablets, although the lower dose is recommended for starting. The tablets should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water to reduce the chances of fainting about 1-3 hours before sex and lasts about one or two hours after sex.
Not made to be taken every day, but on an “on-demand” basis. It can be taken with or without food but do not take more than one tablet in 24 hours.
Priligy starts to work about an hour after taking a tablet and can last up to four hours.
Are there any alternatives to Priligy?
The medication is not a cure for premature ejaculation, but you can try psychological counselling, medical treatment, or EMLA local anaesthetic cream to temporarily numb sensation in the penis. Thicker condoms can also help desensitise your penis if the premature ejaculation is caused by its oversensitivity to stimulation.
You should take Priligy for at least 4 weeks (or at least 6 doses) to determine if Priligy is effective for you. This is because some men experience improvements on the first dose, while others may need to use Priligy a few times before they notice any changes.
What are the side effects of Priligy?
Priligy can cause a drop-in blood pressure that may result in fainting or a loss of consciousness. You can help to minimise this by making sure you drink enough water. Other side effects include feeling dizzy, headache and nausea.
