Sexual Health Screening

A blood test to check for some of the most common sexually transmitted diseases including syphilis, hepatitis and HIV.

An untreated sexually transmitted disease (STD) can lead to other medical conditions. It can also lead to the spreading of the disease through further sexual intercourse with new partners. That's why it's vital to be checked if you think you have contracted an infection. This blood test checks for many of the most common sexually transmitted diseases in both male and female, including syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhoea and hepatitis B and C.

The test also checks for the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV 1 and 2) -the virus that destroys the white blood cells that can fight incoming infections.

Who is this test for?

This test of for individuals who fear that they may have become exposed to an STD through unprotected intercourse, or whose partner may have been diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease or who is showing symptoms consistent with an STD.

HIV Screen

HIV is a virus usually caught by having sex without a condom, although it can also be transferred through blood, breast milk or contaminated needles. The virus systematically weakens and destroys your body's ability to fight infection and illness. It is the main cause of AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome).

The HIV blood test looks for specific HIV antibodies that are produced shortly after infection. By differentiating between HIV-1 and HIV-2 this test can determine whether the infection is recent, leading to faster treatment as well as containment (the risk of transmission is highest in the first 6 months when virus levels are highest).

Who is this test for?

This test is for anybody who is worried that he or she has been exposed to HIV and wish to get an early diagnosis and reduce the risk of transmission.

Syphilis

A blood test to look for syphilis (VDRL), a bacterial infection which can become dangerous if left untreated.

Syphilis is caused by the treponema pallidum bacteria and is spread through sexual contact with an infected person. It is most contagious in the early stage of infection.

Who is this test for?

This test is for individuals who believe that they may have come into contact with syphilis through having unprotected sex with an infected person, or who is showing symptoms consistent with the infection.

Chlamydia & Gonorrhoea

A fast, discreet and totally confidential service that tests for the presence of chlamydia and gonorrhoea.

This tests checks for two sexual transmitted diseases; chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis) and gonorrhoea (caused by neisseria gonorrhoea). Chlamydia is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted disease in the UK. Although easily treated, gonorrhoea can cause serious health and reproductive problems if ignored.

This highly accurate test checks for the presence of both infections, although it is most precise if testing for chlamydia over 14 days from infection, and gonorrhoea over 7 days from infection.

Due to the sensitive nature of the test, we fast-track your tests and have the results within two working days, rather than NHS or GP tests, which can take up to two weeks.

Who is this test for?

This test is for individuals who believe they may have been infected with chlamydia and/or gonorrhoea through unprotected intercourse or because they have symptoms which are consistent with these infections.
